yes, ridiculous inherited issue. have wordpress 2.8 , need upgrade 4.2.2. we've tried using export/import function built wp not bringing in correctly. tried grabbing mysql , importing new table. possible or 2.8 4.2.2 different sol?
woah. lot has changed between 2.x , 4.x, including version of php used, , that's why can't direct upgrade.
see here information version of wp uses version of php , mysql: https://codex.wordpress.org/template:server_requirements
so best bet ever upgrade through intermediary versions, , simultaneously updating php version go along.
please remember create comprehensive backup of server before start.
your other option copy content-bearing mysql tables, content folder, , paste them brand new 4.x site , reconstruct scratch. (this because upgrading through version can frankly messy process.)
