by default in magento product images exist column "base image". doesn't exist in project, deleted or that.

this image system attribute , user can not delete admin panel. please check in current attribute set attributes >> manage attribute sets. may possible mistake drag in group.
you need drag image attribute in images attribute group resole issue.
